Preston North End 3 (Gallagher pen 50, Maguire 52, Browne 82) Leeds United 1 (Roofe 13)

Preston North End came from behind, hitting three second half goals to defeat Leeds United at Deepdale.

Preston had an early chance, Paul Gallagher saw his shot deflect into the path of Tom Barkhuizen and Bailey Peacock-Farrell did well to punch away for a corner.

Barkhuizen had the next chance for the hosts, Alan Browne drove up the pitch and played him into the area, but he could only curl his shot went over the bar.

Leeds took the lead in the 13th minute, a corner came out to Kalvin Phillips and he did superbly to break back into the box, he drove the ball across goal and Kemar Roofe slotted home.

Preston came close to equalising when Sean Maguire headed over from inside the six yard box, following a Paul Huntington flick on at a corner.

A neat turn by Caleb Ekuban, led to him teeing up Pablo Hernandez, who struck first time from the edge of the box, forcing Declan Rudd into a fine save as he pushed his shot around the post.

Billy Bodin was then well picked out in the box by Barkhuizen, he cut inside and saw a curling effort hit the post.

Ekuban then came close for the visitors, latching onto a Hernandez through ball before forcing Rudd to make a smart save.

Preston were awarded a penalty after the break, when Vurnon Anita brought down Bodin in the Leeds box. Paul Gallagher stepped up to take the spot kick and converted powerfully into the bottom right corner.

Alan Browne then forced Peacock-Farrell into a good save, he turned his long distance shot over the crossbar.

Preston took the lead when Maguire headed home a Gallagher cross in the 52nd minute, but there was controversy with Pontus Jansson down injured.  With Jansson unable to continue, Hugo Diaz came on for his Leeds debut.

Greg Cunningham then forced Peacock-Farrell to tip over his shot with an effort from the edge of the box.

Leeds substitute Samuel Saiz almost had an impact when he drove up the pitch and played Hernandez into the box and he stung the palms of Rudd.

Ronaldo Vieira then tried his luck from distance, but Rudd made another fine save.

Preston substitute Callum Robinson forced Peacock-Farrell into action once again, before Preston sealed the game when Alan Browne headed home from a Robinson cross.
