LEEDS RHINOS CEO ON ELLAND ROAD CLASH

Gary Hetherington speaks about Friday’s game.

Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington believes Friday’s Super League clash at Elland Road will be a great occasion.

The Rhinos take on West Yorkshire rivals Castleford Tigers in a repeat of last year’s Super League Grand Final.

Ground improvement works are currently being carried out at Emerald Headingley, with Leeds United welcoming the Rhinos for a second time this season and Hetherington also spoke about the positive relationship between the two clubs.

“Whenever Leeds Rhinos and Castleford come together it is always a big game,” said Hetherington.

“Playing at Elland Road, it is a great venue and a big occasion for both clubs, both sets of supporters and the Leeds United fans who we hope will come along as well.

“Being from Castleford, there has always been a terrific rivalry, Leeds was always been the big city club who everyone wanted to beat and there is no change now.

“Castleford are a terrific side themselves, last year they won the League Leaders Shield and they will be up there again this season.

“Nobody is quite sure what the result is going to be, it should be a brilliant occasion, the weather is getting better and it is great to put the game on a big stage here at Elland Road.

“It is well documented Castleford beat Leeds on four separate occasions last year and then of course we met in the big one, the Grand Final at Old Trafford which went the way of the Rhinos.

“I think it is a 50/50 game, both sides have great players, the bounce of the ball and a bit of good fortune could be the decider.

“Leeds Rhinos and Leeds United have a great relationship and I would really like to go on record and thank Angus Kinnear, Paul Bell and all of the staff for their co-operation.

“They made the last game against Hull KR such an enjoyable one, we met the owner last time as well and we are looking forward to strengthening that partnership and relationship.

“We are all Leeds at the end of the day and it is great for the city when the two big sports clubs come together and I think there is a lot of potential to do other things in the future.”
