PAUL HECKINGBOTTOM: I’M PLEASED FOR EVERYONE

Head coach on Brentford win.

Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom spoke exclusively to LUTV following Saturday’s victory over Brentford.

Liam Cooper’s first half effort secured Leeds 1-0 win against the Bees at Elland Road.

It marked United’s first win of 2018 and also Heckingbottom’s first victory since taking charge of the club earlier this month.

Heckingbottom was pleased to get off the mark as United boss and with many aspects of his sides performance.

“I’m delighted with the win, it has been a long time coming for lots of people,” said Heckingbottom.

“There are people who have been waiting longer than me for that, so it is a reward for everyone, following the hard work of the players.

“I thought we relied on our work without the ball, which is pleasing because that is what we have been working on.

“To be successful in this league, you have to be able to win games like that and perform well against good football sides.

“If we had have got the second goal, which we probably deserved earlier on in the second half, it would have made the game easier for us.

“We had opportunities where we didn’t have the final ball or didn’t get the shot off to test the goalkeeper, but that is how it goes.

“You can’t guarantee the second or third goal, but if it is a game like that against good sides, you know you are going to have to fall back on hard work and discipline, which we did.
