Leeds United’s Under-23s recorded a sixth home victory out of seven, with a 3-2 victory over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Pawel Cibicki and Jay-Roy Grot who have both featured in the first team started for Carlos Corberan’s side, along with Ouasim Bouy and Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

The match started with a bang, as Cibicki eager to impress, made his mark straight away, finding the top corner with a fine strike from the edge of the box inside the first minute, to give Leeds the advantage.

United’s lead was doubled less than a minute later, when Jay-Roy Grot found Cibicki in the box and he slotted home his second goal of the match past Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Dan Wallis.

In the fifth minute, the visitors found a way back into the game, when George Hirst went through before being felled resulting in a penalty.  Almon Abdi converted from 12 yards, with three goals scored in the first six minutes.

After an action packed opening, chances were few and far between after, Hirst went closest, but his effort from a narrow angle was well blocked.

After the break, the Owls almost equalised, Joe West was picked out at the back post and his effort beat Peacock-Farrell, however, Hugo Diaz superbly cleared on the goal-line.

Abdi then had a chance for the visitors, when a ball fell to him on the edge of the Leeds box, but his attempt went just over the crossbar.

Bouy then did well to drive forward for the Whites, but his effort was well off target, not troubling Wallis.

Wednesday did level through Hirst in the 76th minute, he was played through on goal and he made no mistake, firing home.

United almost regained the lead from a Tom Pearce corner, the ball went right across the face of goal, just beyond the heads of Sam Dalby and Paudie O’Connor.

However, the Whites were not to be denied the win, when striker Adrian Balboa raced through from the halfway line and rounded Wallis, before slotting home, to secure United all three points, with three minutes of regular time remaining.
