PAUL HECKINGBOTTOM: WE DESERVED MORE

Head coach on Derby County point.

Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom spoke exclusively to LUTV following Wednesday’s match with Derby County.

After going in level at the break, substitute Ezgjan Alioski put Leeds ahead at Pride Park with 11 minutes remaining, but the Whites were unable to hold onto the lead, as Kasey Palmer’s stoppage time goal earned Derby a point.

United have now drawn back to back games under Heckingbottom, but he felt his side would have been worthy of the three points against the Rams.

“The players were flat in the dressing room after and rightly so, we deserved more for the effort, but the game lasts 95 minutes though these days” said Heckingbottom.

“Once we’d gone in front we limited them to shots from  distance, but their change of tactic and route one play undid us in the end and that was disappointing as I thought we’d weathered the storm.

“The chances Derby had in the first half were due to our wrong doing, the goal especially.

“We’d got ourselves into the game, the team talk was changed with the goal just before half time and we had to go out and do it all in the second half, which we did, but we were again undone at the end.

“You can’t feel sorry for yourself, I’m disappointed for the players, but not with them, I thought we grew into the game as it went on and in my eyes deserved the three points.

“Everything is still possible, our approach won’t change though, we are only bothered about the next game.

“If we get the three points on Saturday, everyone will be talking about the Play-Offs again.”
