SHARP MAKES UNITED MOVE

Southampton striker completes Leeds switch…

The club can now confirm that Southampton striker Billy Sharp has completed his move to United.

The 28-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the club and has signed for an undisclosed fee.

The Sheffield born forward spent his youth career at Sheffield United and Rotherham but with first team appearances limited he made the move to Scunthorpe United.

Following an impressive goalscoring rate at Scunthorpe the striker made the move back to Sheffield United, where he remained until he moved to Doncaster Rovers in 2009, initially on loan.

In 2012 Sharp left Doncaster and moved to the South Coast to join Southampton for a fee reported as over one million pounds. During his time at Southampton the striker has made loan moves to Championship clubs including Nottingham Forest, Reading and Doncaster Rovers.

The striker knows the Championship well after spending the majority of his career playing in the second tier of English football and adds experience to United’s squad.

United head coach David Hockaday said: “Billy is a prolific goalscorer and is tried and tested at Championship level. He was desperate to come here and play for us. I’m delighted to welcome Billy to the club.”
