THOMAS CHRISTIANSEN: WE CANNOT GO ON LIKE THIS

THOMAS CHRISTIANSEN: WE CANNOT GO ON LIKE THIS

Head coach on Millwall defeat.

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen spoke exclusively to LUTV following Saturday’s match with Millwall.

It was heartbreak for Leeds, as Jed Wallace’s injury time winner, gave the Lions all three points at Elland Road.

United were reduced to ten men in the first half and Christiansen was unhappy with the defeat and the performance during the opening 45 minutes.

“It was a bad end, when you lose in the way that we lost today,” said Chrisitansen.

“I am disappointed, we always have to get punished before we react and I hope we react next time before we get punished, I want us to open the scoring.

“The reaction in the second half was very positive, but we haven’t taken anything out of the game.

“It was a really good performance in the second half, everyone gave the maximum they had inside of them and this is what I expect from my players, they have to die on the pitch and give everything.

“The team believed, we got the goal after the first minute in the second half and we went in strongly, but we couldn’t keep the result.

“In our last game against Ipswich the performance was good, but we didn’t take anything and we cannot go on like this.”

Christiansen also spoke about the situation of having four players out suspended for the trip to the KCOM Stadium, with Samuel Saiz, Eunan O’Kane, Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips all ruled out.

He said: “We will have to play with what we have, there is nothing more that we can do.

“We spoke about discipline through the week, today’s red card wasn’t a spit or a provocation though, it was a strong challenge in a situation.

“I don’t know if it could have been a yellow card or a red card, but it was a red which was given.”

United will now head to Spain for a warm weather training camp over the next week and Christiansen spoke about the importance of doing so.

“On Monday we will go to Murcia to prepare for an important game at Hull,” added Christiansen.

“We will be away, have time to speak, train and get ready for this next game.

“In this time we will also have many individual talks as well, about what we want and expect.”
