A Bersant Celina strike proved to be the difference between Ipswich Town and Leeds United as Eunan O’Kane saw red at Portman Road.

Leeds started on the front foot with Pablo Hernandez having an early shot blocked by Jonus Knudsen inside two minutes.

Leeds had a half a chance inside 15 minutes when Dean Gerkan misread Gaetano Berardi’s cross, but Ezgjan Alioski could only hook wide.

Leeds had a golden chance to take the lead when brilliant approach work from Pablo Hernandez down the right wing saw the Spaniard pick out Pawel Cibicki in the box but the Sweden Under-21 international scuffed his shot wide.

The action quickly moved to the end when David McGoldrick’s looping cross found Joe Garner, but the former Preston North End man could only shot wide from close range.

Kemar Roofe then had a another chance to open the scoring for Leeds, again it was Pablo Hernandez played a lovely through ball to the forward, but he saw his shot blocked by the feet of Ipswich captain Luke Chambers.

Leeds were then dealt a huge blow eight minutes from time, when Eunan O’Kane was shown a straight red card for an off the ball incident.

Ipswich then hit the post directly from Martyn Waghorn’s corner, before Celina’s curling shot hit the woodwork in added time and Callum Connolly fired wide from the rebound, as the two sides went in all square.

Half Time: Ipswich Town 0-0 Leeds United

United had the first chance of the second half when Kalvin Phillips’ shot from distance was well saved by Gerken.

The action quickly moved to the other end with Felix Wiedwald saving from Connolly before Garner put the rebound wide.

Ipswich took the lead in the 67th minute when Bersant Celina who had hit the post in the first half this time found the top corner from 30 yards.

Ipswich then had a chance to double their advantage when Garner met a Myles Kenlock cross but his header was straight at Wiedwald.

The Whites had a wonderful chance to level matters on 81 minutes, Sacko did well on the right, before Hernandez found Roofe, who played the ball across goal, but Liam Cooper could only fire over from inside the six yard box.

Leeds continued to push for an equaliser, despite having a man less and Hernandez almost found the net with an effort from the edge of the box, but his attempt went just over the crossbar.

In stoppage time, substitute Pierre-Michel Lasogga then fired an effort from the edge of the box, which brought a great save from Gerken and nobody could get onto the rebound, as the Tractor Boys held on for all three points.
