LIAM COOPER: WE WILL BE LOOKING TO PUT THINGS RIGHT

Captain on Ipswich Town trip.

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper is determined to right the wrongs of last week’s Emirates FA Cup defeat.

The Whites were beaten 2-1 by Sky Bet League Two side Newport County at Rodney Parade in the Third Round of the competition.

Cooper insists the side will be doing everything they can to get back to winning ways at Portman Road and spoke about taking advantage of the position the Whites find themselves in the Championship.

“Last week was definitely disappointing, we should have been going there and turning teams like that over,” said Cooper.

“It was a long and quiet journey back and we were all hurting, which is how it should be, but hopefully we can turn it around now and have a good second half to the season.

“As professionals the lads really want to lift the morale, the most important game is the next one and we will be looking to put things right against Ipswich Town.

“The manager has always said he will pick the players who are playing well and he has stuck by that, training has been very good this week and we will look for a positive result on Saturday.

“I think we have found ourselves in the last six or seven weeks, after the bad spell if you want to call it that, we have definitely been going in the right direction, but we have to stay motivated, keep our eye on the prize and keep plugging away.

“We are six points off second place now and in my opinion this is the best chance since I have been at the club, to really go for that second spot.

“I will be doing all I can and I know the lads will be doing all they can, to really grasp that and give ourselves a really good chance.

“We are in a really good position and one that we really have to take with both hands and see where that leaves us.

“At Portman Road, we seem to have a knack of going there, scoring early and then losing the game, so we will be definitely looking to put that right.

“Mick McCarthy’s teams are always hard to play against, with a high work rate and we have to match that and hopefully our quality will come out on top.”
