EUNAN O’KANE: WE PICKED OURSELVES UP

Midfielder on Burton Albion victory.

Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane was pleased with the Boxing Day victory over Burton Albion.

The Whites came from behind to win 2-1 at the Pirelli Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship, thanks to goals from Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe.

The Republic of Ireland international spoke about how last season’s defeat at the Brewers had an impact on the game.

“It is a great win, we knew coming here was going to be very difficult,” said O’Kane.

“We learnt a lesson here last year and it was emphasized before the game, how big on a test this would be.

“Burton are a completely different team at home, compared to what they are away from home and they dug in and worked hard to get a result, but I think our quality showed in the end.

“The game here last season more or less ended our Play-Off hopes and we had a little bit of a score to settle for some of us who were here and we did look back on it and picked out where we went wrong and tried not to let this happen again.

“There was a bit of disbelief being behind at half time, we’d dominated the whole half and without seeing it back again, I think we will be disappointed with the goal as a group and personally I think I could have cleared better.

“But we picked ourselves up, kept at it in the second half and managed to get the goals that we needed.

“I thought what we were doing was successful, although we hadn’t put the ball in the net, we created chances and looked a threat.

“We just needed to stay calm and stick to what we’d been doing and eventually someone was going to take a chance and it was excellent from Pablo to get us back in the game and great for Kemar to get the winning goal.

“We had the bad spell, we have come out of it and are four wins from four now, we are on a good run and we feel going into games we always have a chance of winning, no matter who we play and hopefully that continues.”
