Sky Bet Championship

Leeds United 1 (Jansson 19) Aston Villa 1 (Lansbury 71)

It was a game of two halves as Leeds and Aston Villa played out a 1-1 draw at Elland Road in the Sky Bet Championship.

Eunan O’Kane missed out through injury, but Ronaldo Vieira who missed the win at Barnsley, returned to the starting line-up.

The home side went close breaking up-field and Albert Adomah forced Whites stopper Felix Wiedwald into action.

Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez then tried their luck from distance, but neither was able to find the target.

Leeds took the lead in the 19th minute from a corner, Pablo Hernandez delivered and Pontus Jansson beat Chris Samba in the air to head home at the near post.

The Whites then went close from another set-piece, the ball was laid off to Vieira on the edge of the box to strike, but his effort was well blocked.

A neat back heel from Caleb Ekuban saw Alisoski break into the box, Ekuban then looked for the return ball, but Alioski’s pass was intercepted at the last.

Leeds were dealt a blow when Hernandez had to be withdrawn just before the break, but could have added a second in first half stoppage time, when Liam Cooper headed over from an Alioski free-kick.

Half Time: Leeds United 1-0 Aston Villa

Ten minutes into the second half, the visitors had the chance to equalise, Luke Ayling slid in for a challenge, but couldn’t get there and Albert Adomah went through on goal, however Felix Wiedwald made a super stop.

Samuel Saiz then put a fine cross into the Villa box from the right, but neither Alioski, Ekuban or substitute Kemar Roofe could get on the end of it.

The Whites then had the ball in the net, only for the goal to be disallowed for offside.  Liam Cooper headed home a Roofe free-kick, but was adjudged to have made his movements just too soon.

Villa then went close from a free-kick, Wiedwald came for a punching clearance but couldn’t get there, the ball fell to visitors substitute Henri Lansbury, but he scuffed his shot.

However, Lansbury made up for his miss in the 71st minute, when he fired home from 20 yards, via the left post, to level the scores.

The game was end to end in the closing stages, but neither team was able to get the breakthrough as both sides had to settle for a point.
