CALEB EKUBAN: WE ARE COMFORTABLE PLAYING UNDER PRESSURE

Striker on Barnsley win.

Leeds United forward Caleb Ekuban was delighted to receive his first start for the Whites since August in Saturday’s victory over Barnsley.

Ekuban, who joined the Whites from Chievo Verona over the summer, has missed a large chunk of the campaign after getting injured in the victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The 23-year-old impressed at Oakwell and was happy to contribute to the Whites picking up all three points.

“We played as we expected and entered the game with the right mentality,” said Ekuban.

“We tried to play as strong as we could because we knew it was going to be a tough game, we competed very well and scored two goals in the first half to set us on our way.

“It was a battle, we wanted to put them under pressure and overall we are really happy that we were able to take home the three points.

“I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to be part of the line-up and help my team mates after injury, unfortunately I didn’t score against Barnsley but I was happy with the team performance.

“I had a great chance to score when Pablo Hernandez put me in, but my first touch let me down and I hope to do better in the future.

“We had a good win against Middlesbrough and it was good to come back after disappointment against Wolves and show we are still the same team that beat Middlesbrough.

“I hope I can keep my place now against Aston Villa, I think I helped the team, but you never know.

“I think I proved I am okay and in good condition after my long injury and I am available for the coach if he decides to select me.

“There is a huge expectation here, but we are players who can deal with that kind of pressure and we are showing it.

“Maybe a few weeks ago we didn’t show it, but we are comfortable playing under pressure.”
