Defender on Barnsley win.
Leeds United captain Liam Cooper was pleased with Saturday’s Yorkshire derby victory over Barnsley at Oakwell.
The Whites ran out 2-0 winners in South Yorkshire thanks to strikes from Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski.
Cooper insists the side must keep going now, having won two of their last three matches in the Sky Bet Championship.
“Obviously this was a Yorkshire derby which speaks for itself, we were all in the changing rooms before the game getting the lads up for it, because we knew what to expect,” said Cooper.
“We have played in these games before and come off second best, but on Saturday, the lads went out there, won the fight first and foremost and our quality shone through, we scored two good goals and could have had more.
“It is always good to score just before half time, we came in 2-0 up and we knew we had done half a job.
“We’ve been crying out for a 90 minute performance, I think in the second half we got a bit sloppy at times, but we defended as a team and were worthy of the three points.
“Barnsley were always going to have a go in the second half, especially on their own patch, but we limited their chances and we came out on top.
“Seven days ago, if you’d have offered us six points from nine we’d have taken it, if we can average two points a game, we know that is promotion form and we have to keep carrying on.
“We will take a lot of confidence and we have to go again now, we have a massive game at home on Friday against Aston Villa and we will be looking to get another three points against them now.
“The boys love the games under the lights, it is a big game and there will be another big crowd at Elland Road.”
