Lasogga strike not enough for Leeds.

Derby County produced a second half comeback to hand Leeds United a third consecutive loss at Elland Road.

Thomas Christiansen made three changes from the side which lost against Sheffield United, Pontus Jansson came in for the injured Liam Cooper, Kemar Roofe replaced the suspended Kalvin Phillips and Stuart Dallas started at left-back in place of Vurnon Anita.

Ahead of the game, United’s closest Armistice Day this year, a minute's silence was held and the Last Post played, with the Whites also wearing poppies on their white shirts.

The Whites got off to the perfect start inside seven minutes, Ronaldo Vieira robbed possession from Tom Huddlestone, Samuel Saiz then played in Pierre-Michel Lasogga with a fine pass and the German striker smashed home.

Leeds then had another great chance two minutes later, on the counter attack, Leeds had three on two, with Ezgjan Alioski, Saiz and Vieira all breaking up-field, but Derby managed to scramble clear the latter’s through ball.

Kemar Roofe then did well to get to the byline before providing a neat cross, Lasogga got his head to it, but his effort was blocked.

Five minutes from the break, with Leeds on the break, Roofe floated a lovely ball to the back post, Alioski then went down and it looked like he was pulled back, but no penalty was awarded, to the frustration of the Leeds supporters and playing staff.

Alioski then played Vieira into the box, but he couldn’t get enough on his effort from a narrow angle to really test former Whites stopper Scott Carson, as the Whites went into the break with the advantage, with Andy Lonergan having barely a stop to make in the first period.

Leeds started the second half brightly, Roofe tried a curling effort from range, but he couldn’t find the target.

Alioski almost added an unexpected second, Eunan O’Kane fired a free-kick to the win and his crossed volley went goal-wards and almost found the top left corner, but for Carson’s intervention.

From the resulting set-piece, the second ball into the box found Lasogga free, but he could only volley wide, however it wouldn’t have counted with the striker offside.

Lonergan was forced into his first stop in the 64th minute, Chris Martin turned well on the edge of the box, forcing the Leeds stopper into a good low save.

Derby leveled eight minutes later, Craig Forsyth had acres of space to run into down the left wing and his low cross found Sam Winnall and he slotted home into the bottom corner.

The visitors could then have gone in front, Derby substitute Andreas Weimann crossed low and Roofe almost turned it into his own net, but luckily it went just wide.

Ayling charged up-field, the ball was played to Saiz on the right flank, he crossed to the back post looking for Alioski, but the Macedonian couldn’t direct his header on target.

Derby were awarded a penalty 11 minutes from time, Tom Lawrence was felled by Hadi Sacko and a spot kick was awarded, Winnall stepped up and sent Lonergan the wrong way to put the Rams ahead for the first time.

In stoppage time, Leeds had a good chance to level, Jay-Roy Grot did well to head to Saiz and he set up Lasogga to strike from the edge of the box, but his effort went over the bar, as the Whites suffered a fifth defeat in six league games.
