Pre-Season

Leeds United 2 (Roofe 35, Dallas 84) Oxford United 0

Kemar Roofe scored against his former club to help Leeds United defeat Oxford United in the final game of pre-season.

Head coach Thomas Christiansen took charge of his first match at Elland Road, as Leeds welcomed back former assistant head coach Pep Clotet, who is now in charge of the Sky Bet League One outfit.

It was the visitors who had the first opportunity inside the first minute, Ryan Ledson pounced on a low kick from Felix Wiedwald and struck from range, but he couldn’t find the target.

At the other end Roofe did well on the right wing, before delivering a great low cross, but Simon Eastwood intercepted with Chris Wood waiting for a tap-in.

Marvin Johnson then went close for Oxford, he fired an effort from the edge of the box, which went just wide.

Leeds took the lead in the 35th minute, Eunan O’Kane created the space for Roofe, who cut inside, before finding the bottom right corner with a well taken finish.

The Whites had another opportunity before the break from a corner, Pablo Hernandez whipped in and found Liam Cooper, who had a free header, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.

Half Time: Leeds United 1-0 Oxford United

Leeds made a bright start to the second half and Wood had a fine chance to double United’s lead, Pablo Hernandez squared it to the New Zealand striker in the box, but he was denied by Eastwood.

Hernandez then went close from a free-kick 20 yards from goal, his curling attempt went just over the crossbar.

Against the run of play, in the 51st minute Canice Carroll struck first time from the edge of the box, forcing Wiedwald into a good save.

Five minutes later, Ledson almost leveled for Clotet’s men, he struck well from 25 yards and his attempt deflected just over the crossbar.

Gaetano Berardi almost caught out the Oxford goalkeeper with an effort from in excess of 40 yards, but Eastwood recovered in time to make the save.

Substitute Stuart Dallas doubled the advantage for Leeds six minutes from time, he beat the offside trap, before superbly curling an effort into the top right corner, from the left edge of the box.

With three minutes remaining, Sacko had the chance to wrap up the victory, Caleb Ekuban provided a fine back heel, to find the Frenchman in the box, but he could only fire wide.
