New Leeds United goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald was delighted to complete his transfer from Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen. 

The German stopper has penned a three year deal with the Whites as Thomas Christiansen’s squad begins to take shape for the 2017/18 season.

Wiedwald will now face competition from Rob Green, Marco Silvestri and Bailey Peacock-Farrell for the goalkeeper jersey and the 27 year-old is hoping to become first choice.

“I’m very happy to be here, this is a huge club with so much history and tradition, it is amazing to have signed,” said Wiedwald.

“We have been in contact for a long time and now I am here, Leeds United is a sleeping giant, it is a club with great supporters and the stadium is nearly always full, it is great to finally be here.

“I think every player wants to come to England and achieve great things, I am looking forward to playing at Elland Road and hearing the fans sing ‘Marching on Together’.

“I have come to play and give my best on the pitch, the target is to keep as many clean sheets as I can, I want to develop and I hope we can have a very good season.

“My strengths are doing well in one-on-one situations and I am good with my feet, I want to play football and I am a strong player.”
