KALVIN PHILLIPS: IT’S GOOD TO BE BACK

Midfielder on return to training.

Kalvin Phillips has this week told LUTV how pleased he is to return to pre-season training with the club.

United’s first team returned to Thorp Arch for the first time on Monday, as preparations officially got underway ahead of the Whites first league fixture against Bolton Wanderers on Sunday 6th August.

The 21 year-old midfielder is hoping the hard work put in by the team now, will be rewarded.

“It’s good to be back with all the lads and getting to meet all of the new players who have come in as well,” said Phillips.

“I’ve had a good break, I’ve had a holiday and spent a lot of time at home with the family, so it has been a decent summer.

“I’ve been itching to get back though, it is good to see all of the boys and hear the stories about what they have done throughout the summer.

“When you come back for pre-season training you have to come back at a certain level in order to do the work we continue doing.

“It is really important to have a good pre-season, because it will help us throughout the campaign.”

Over the past few days new head coach Thomas Christiansen has met his squad for the first time, before taking charge of his first training session on Monday.

Phillips spoke about meeting the new man at the helm and is aiming to impresss.

He said: “We’ve all got a good first impression from Thomas, we had a meeting and he told us about his philosophy and hopefully we can all get to grips with it as soon as possible.

“There are always nerves with a new manager because you don’t know if he is going to like you or not, but you just have to give your best and what will be, will be.

“I just want to get as fit as I possibly can, when you reach the level where you think you can’t go any more, I need to keep pushing and pushing and hopefully that will show when I play games.”
