Leeds United suffered a second successive Sky Bet Championship defeat as two first half strikes gave Brentford a 2-0 victory at Griffin Park.

There were warning signs for Leeds from the start, when Sergi Canos went close inside two minutes, he cut inside from the left flank, but could only fire over the crossbar.

Canos again came close to breaking the deadlock, Josh Clarke did really well on the right before teeing up the winger in the box, but again skied his effort over the crossbar.

At the other end Modou Barrow did well breaking forward for the Whites, he got himself into the penalty area, but scuffed his shot and Daniel Bentley made an easy save.

The home side took the lead inside 18 minutes, Rob Green made a brilliant save to deny Canos, but he couldn’t prevent Romaine Sawyers from smashing home the rebound.

Leeds looked to hit back through Chris Wood, he was played in down the left flank after a good ball from Kalvin Phillips, but he could only fire over after cutting inside well.

The Whites then went close from a Pablo Hernandez corner, Kyle Bartley had a free header, but couldn’t direct his attempt on target, before Luke Ayling flicked over.

Lasse Vibe almost added to Brentford’s lead when he was played in by Sawyers, but luckily for United his effort went wide of the post.

Brentford doubled their advantage in the 34^th minute, Green was again on hand to stop another Canos effort, but this time was unable to prevent Vibe from poking home the rebound.

It could have been three for Brentford before the break, Canos went through on goal and attempted to lift the ball over the out-coming Green, but the Whites stopper denied him with an amazing one handed save.

In the second half Barrow again caused problems, he broke inside from the wing and fired at goal, but his effort was blocked by Harlee Dean.

Stuart Dallas, facing his former club, then put a decent ball into the box, but Wood’s attempt was off target.

Wood then turned provider to tee up Barrow in the box, but he saw his effort well saved by Bentley.

Substitute Alfonso Pedraza then did well to break down the left wing and get to the byline, however he shot at goal from a narrow angle, despite Wood crying out for the ball to be squared.

Leeds then went close from a set-piece, Hernandez whipped in a free-kick from the right flank and Pontus Jansson saw his header cleared off the line by Dean.

Jota won himself a free-kick for Brentford and nearly added to the Bee’s lead at the set-piece, but for a good save from Green.

Jota then went through on goal and was again denied by Green who made a splendid save, before somehow denying substitute Florian Jozefzoon from the rebound.

Kemar Roofe introduced from the bench almost pulled one back for Leeds, Ayling put in a low cross which he got on the end of, but he couldn’t beat Bentley.

Green then prevented Vibe from adding to his tally, as Brentford looked to catch Leeds on the counter attack late on.
