Head coach on Seagulls victory.
Leeds United head coach Garry Monk spoke exclusively to LUTV following Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.
A Chris Wood brace ensured the Whites kept up their recent good run of form and are now seven games unbeaten in the Sky Bet Championship.
United’s head coach was delighted with the display his team produced in front of a very vocal Elland Road crowd.
“It was an excellent performance, we were playing against a very good, experienced and dangerous side and we were fantastic from start to finish,” said Monk.
“Defensively we were really solid and offensively we looked a threat, the first goal in games like this is crucial and we managed to get that and I thought we deserved it and ultimately the result as well.
“When you play teams like this and come out on top, it is always a boost for the morale and mindset of the players going forwards, it is a very important three points, but we still have a lot of work to do.
“Overall though I thought we looked really strong and aggressive, we really were on the front foot, it was a great performance.
“It was a fantastic atmosphere again, I asked our supporters to crank up the noise before the game and they certainly did, it was amazing and it really boosted the players.
“All we care about going into matches is the three points, we fight as hard as we can for them and we need to maintain that going forwards.
“The result, along with the international break we have now, is the perfect combination, it could have been a long two weeks.
“We had the result and performance, two goals and a clean sheet against an excellent side like Brighton gives us a great feeling going into the break.
“We’ve pushed the players really hard to this point, the last couple of weeks have been very physical, we will look to recoup the players and bring some freshness into them, but they know me, we haven’t done anything yet, we need to keep working and improving.”
