DOUKARA WINS GOAL OF THE MONTH

DOUKARA WINS GOAL OF THE MONTH

Amazing volley wins accolade.

Leeds United forward Souleymane Doukara has won the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month for January.

The Whites forward’s stunning volley against Nottingham Forest earned him 69% of the public vote.

His effort on the 25th January, was likened to Tony Yeboah’s effort against Liverpool in 1995, with the ball falling to Doukara on the edge of the box, before he fired a sensational volley into the top left corner.

Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman said: “There were an incredible selection of goals in the Championship this month, from silky dribbling from Lawrence, to innovation and technical brilliance from Osbourne.

“But the winner had to be Doukara, for a simply sensational net-busting volley.”

Speaking about winning the award, Doukara said: “I’m happy with the award, it’s a good trophy for me and my first one in England.

“As soon as the ball came back to me, I just tried to hit it.  I looked at it for one second and ran away to celebrate, because I knew it was in! I was laughing on the pitch because I knew it was a good goal.”

Doukara beat off competition from Ipswich Town’s Tom Lawrence and Nottingham Forest’s Ben Osborne.
