GARRY MONK: HUDDERSFIELD ARE FAVOURITES

Head coach on Sunday's Yorkshire derby.

Garry Monk is expecting a hard encounter when his side travel to the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday.

United head to Huddersfield Town, looking for a third win on the spin in the Sky Bet Championship, but face a Terriers side who have lost just once in their last ten games.

Monk has been closely analysing his opponents ahead of the Yorkshire derby and claimed Huddersfield would be "the favourites" for the fixture.

"I was at the Huddersfield game on Thursday and I was very impressed," said Monk.

"Considering they were playing against Brighton who are the league leaders, you would have expected a tight game, but they ran out very comfortable winners in the end, which makes their performance even more impressive.

"I'm sure that gives their belief of making the Premier League this season even stronger and we realise it will be a very difficult game for us.

"I think it will be our toughest game of the season and one we are going to have to be ready.

"Huddersfield will be favourites with it being at their ground, but we will travel with our support united together."

Pontus Jansson this week agreed a permanent deal to remain with the club once his loan agreement ends in the summer.

Monk was pleased to see the deal get done for Jansson, who has become a cult hero at Elland Road.

He said: "All parties were always comfortable that this was going to be the situation internally.

"It is great for Pontus, great for the club and great for his teammates, he has done very well for us this season and contributed a lot to the group.

"He knows, as well as me, now is the time for even more, we need him to perform even better than he is right now and work even harder, like all the group and all the players.

"Pontus is experienced and he realises that and I'm sure he will be the first to take that on board going into the remainder of the games."

United also moved to sign Alfonso Pedraza and Modou Barrow on transfer deadline day and United's head coach also spoke about how they have been settling into life with the Whites.

"Alfonso and Modou have been great, we have a very good group here who have welcomed them with open arms," added Monk.

"They have been great and settled, they are ready to work, along with helping and contributing to the group.

"It was important to come out of the January transfer window stronger with some more options and with the deals that we have done, we have that.

"They are coming into a very competitive group that are doing very well this season, but we know their attitude and profile is the same as the group we have which will benefit the team."
