Leeds United 0 Burnley 1 (Wood 6)

Tommy Wood’s early strike was enough to give Burnley a 1-0 friendly victory over Jason Blunt’s Under-23s at Thorp Arch.

Both sides fielded a number of trialist’s, with three turning out for United and two among the Clarets ranks.

In the first real opportunity of the match, A Trialist did really well down the right flank for Burnley before teeing up Wood who slotted home from close range to give the visitors the lead.

The Clarets again went close in the 15th minute at a set piece, Jamie Thomas whipped in and Arlen Birch headed just over.

Forward George Green then went close for the Lancashire side, he fired just wide from long range.

Burnley then had another opportunity from a set-piece, Jamie Thomas fired a free-kick at goal, it took a deflection off the wall and Trialist A made a really good reactive save, to prevent Leeds from going further behind.

Birch and Thomas both tried their luck from distance as Burnley pressed for a second goal, but neither were able to find the target.

Mallik Wilks had United’s first opportunity in the 35th minute, his low effort forced Burnley stopper Conor Mitchell into action, with the goalkeeper making a good save to deny the Leeds forward.

Alex Wollerton then had a chance to level just before the break, he managed to get on the end of Michael Taylor’s cross, but he was unable to direct his header on target.
