CHRIS WOOD: WE PERFORMED EXTREMELY WELL

Striker on Derby victory.

Leeds United striker Chris Wood was pleased to head the Whites to another win, as Garry Monk’s side defeated Derby County at Elland Road on Friday.

Wood’s effort on the stroke of half time proved to be enough, as Leeds provided a dominant performance against the Rams.

The win was United’s fifth in a row at home and Wood was happy to keep that run going.

“It was nice to get the goal, but it is good to get another, that is the main thing and keeping Elland Road a fortress,” said Wood.

“We performed extremely well, especially in the first half and then we took it through for the full 90 minutes and that is what we need to do, we need that consistency throughout the whole game.

“There were a few disappointed at half time only to be one up, but Derby are a good side, we had a few chances and I’m sure Kyle Bartley will be kicking himself a bit, but I can’t be critical because he has put a few vital goals away this season.

“It is the sign of a good side that when teams come back at us for a period, we are able to attack again and raise the bar again and we did that in the second half.

“I’m sure we can look up to Newcastle and Brighton now, we are only a few points behind them as it stands.

“We need to keep ticking over game by game though, the next one is another Derby against Barnsley and another match we want to do well in.

“We will have a day off and then be back on the training ground, working hard to be ready for that game next weekend.”
