U23 REPORT: TIGERS GET VICTORY AT THORP ARCH

United go down to Yorkshire rivals.

Professional Development League

Leeds United 0 Hull City 2 (Ter Horst 80, Annan 87)

Leeds United Under-23s suffered defeat on Monday at Thorp Arch as Hull City scored two second half goals to secure victory in the Professional Development League.

The Tigers thought they had gone in front inside seven minutes, Will Annan had the ball in the back of the net, only to see his effort ruled out for offside.

A minute later there was a mix up in the Hull defence, Bradley Maslen-Jones’ back header to Will Mannion went past the Hull stopper and Tom Pearce was inches from getting on the end of the ball and turning it into the goal.

Leeds then went close through Bobby Kamwa, he tried a curling effort from range, which was only denied by a super save from Mannion to keep the scores level.

Hull again came close to a breakthrough when Johan Ter Horst went through on goal, Leeds stopper Ross Turnbull denied him, before Robbie McKenzie’s lobbed effort was denied by the post.

United then had Turnbull to thank again to prevent Hull from taking the lead, Greg Olley put Ter Horst through on goal, but once again he couldn’t get the better of the Leeds stopper.

Leeds had a chance just before the interval when Kamwa played a neat cross to Pearce, but he saw his effort blocked.

Half Time: Leeds United 0-0 Hull City

After the break Leeds had a brilliant chance to take the lead, Mattie Downing made a great run down the left flank, before crossing low to Kamwa who was unmarked, but he couldn’t find the target from 12 yards.

United again went close through Pearce, after some good build up play with Michael Taylor and Alex Wollerton, Pearce saw a curling effort deflect just wide.

Leeds kept up their second half dominance and were denied from taking the lead by the woodwork, Kamwa charged downfield before playing in Euoghan Stokes, who saw his effort tipped on to the post by the Hull goalkeeper.

The Tigers had a good opportunity from a set piece in their first real chance of the second period.  Annan whipped in a free-kick and Maslen-Jones who had a free header was unable to find the target.

The Whites again went close through Pearce, he charged downfield, before unleashing curling effort, which brought a good save from Mannion.

City took the lead ten minutes from time, Annan sent Ter Horst through one-on-one with Turnbull and this time he made no mistake, slotting home into the back of the net.

The visitors then wrapped up the victory in the dying minutes, when Annan turned from provider to goal-scorer, heading home a neat cross at the back post after a lot of attacking pressure, to seal the points for the Tigers.
