GARRY MONK: WE NEED TO BE AT OUR MAXIMUM

Head coach on Aston Villa.

Leeds United head coach spoke exclusively to LUTV ahead of Saturday’s Championship clash with Aston Villa.

United welcome the form team in the division to Elland Road (5:30pm live on Sky Sports), who are unbeaten under new manager Steve Bruce.

The Leeds head coach has insisted it is important for his side to put Tuesday’s defeat at Liverpool behind them.

“Aston Villa are a team who are on a good run, Steve Bruce has gone in there and they are starting to push forward now,” said Monk.

“I’m sure come the end of May they will be looking to be in and around the promotion places, so it is going to be a tough test for us.

“We have to re-focus quickly from Tuesday night, we need all of our players ready and I know our fans will be there to really push the team on.

“Again we need to concentrate on ourselves, give another really good performance and put our football on the pitch again, because that is what it is going to take to overturn a really good Aston Villa side.

“I have a good group, a group that are eager and focused to do well and we have been consistent with our quality and performances, we need to be at our maximum again on Saturday evening.

Monk also gave an update on the current injury situation, with Liam Bridcutt set to return to first team training.

“We have a few bumps and bruises, but the players are recovering well both mentally and physically, I don’t envisage any problems,” added Monk.

“Eunan O’Kane was brought off as a precaution, but he is okay and I’m sure he will be available for the weekend.

“Liam Cooper had a bit of a knock, but the scan came back okay which is good and we are confident to have the same group available.

“Liam Bridcutt is due to be back with us in training on Monday, but Pablo Hernandez could be a week or two more.
