GARRY MONK: LEWIE DESERVES THE NEW DEAL

Head coach pleased to see Coyle rewarded.

Following the news Lewie Coyle has penned a new two-year contract with Leeds United, head coach Garry Monk spoke exclusively to LUTV.

The 21-year-old defender has committed his future at Elland Road until at least the end of the 2018/19 season.

Monk praised the character of the right-back which has seen him earn a new deal.

“It is great news, Lewie has been working very well since day one of us being here and he is another young player with potential at this club,” said Monk.

“Lewie has an attitude and desire to get better as a player and fit into what we are trying to do here.

“He deserves the new deal at this stage of his career and it is a great show of faith from the club.

“Lewie now needs to be grateful for the contract and repay the club with the determination and improvement he has been shown to date.”

The United head coach also urged Coyle and the other young players within the squad to continue giving their all for the cause, which will be repaid.

“Lewie is at the very start of his career and there is a long way to go and like a lot of the other young players, it is important now that he tries to fight and kick on for an even better contract in the future.

“Attitude, potential and ability all go hand in hand, one doesn’t work without the other and you can argue attitude is the most important, because that gets you to where you need to be.

“To be at a club like Leeds United and playing games in the first team for the young players is a privilege, you have to earn new deals and if we think players deserve a new contract they will get it.”
