SILVESTRI: THE FANS WERE AMAZING

United stopper pleased to progress.

Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri was delighted to set up an EFL Cup quarter final tie with Liverpool.

Silvestri made numerous saves throughout Tuesday’s clash with Norwich, before denying three Canaries spot kicks in the penalty shootout.

The United stopper admitted it was a special evening under the floodlights at Elland Road.

“It was a great night, we gave everything we had for the win, and it was a great match,” Silvestri said.

“I have to play the best I can when I have my chance, so I always need to be at my best.

“I think we all played really well, everyone gave their maximum, we showed a lot of character and it was an important match for us.

“The fans are always good at Elland Road, but on Tuesday they were amazing, they got behind us throughout the match and we felt that on the pitch.

“When players get a chance on the pitch we have to show everything, every player put in a really good performance.”

The Italian also spoke us through his thinking, to deny the Norwich spot kicks.

“We always watch penalties before the game so we always have an idea,” added Silvestri.

“It is always difficult however because the penalty taker can change their mind at the last minute.

“In general I have an idea in my mind where the penalties are going to go, the preparation is really good, which gave me a good chance to make the saves.

“We are all really happy to have got through and we are in the quarter final now.”
