Pontus Jansson has been named the Louis Erard Leeds United Player of the Month for September 2016.
The Swedish centre-back has become a cult hero for his performances during the opening months of the season with his blend of skill, strength and passion endearing him to the Elland Road faithful. Jansson’s run of form coincided with a positive run of results for Garry Monk’s team last month with wins against Cardiff and Ipswich, as well as two wins against Blackburn Rovers coming during the month of September.
Daniel McNutt, representing Louis Erard, is delighted to see Pontus take the award, saying “Pontus has been crucial to Leeds United change in form, he has represented the club and the fans with passion and we are proud to be able to recognise that with this month’s award”.
Also winning an award tonight is supporter Paul Buckley, who has won the Louis Erard Leeds United Fan of the Month award for September 2016.
Paul has been a season ticket holder at Leeds United since 1978 attending his first game at Elland Road in January 1973, a 1-0 win over Stoke City. Speaking to LeedsUnited.com, Paul told us how passionate he is about our club, “I love Leeds United and I have had a season ticket for over 40 years, I get to away games when I can, a lot more since I moved over the Pennines to be closer to Leeds.”
Paul is also happy to be recognised alongside Pontus Jansson this month, “Pontus is fantastic, he is a real character and his passion has brought the team closer to the fans which is exactly what we needed, let’s not forget he is a top player too.”
Paul will also win a luxury Louis Erard watch along further rewarding his years of dedication to the club, “It is a wonderful gesture from the people at Louis Erard and something I will treasure. Its a great idea to involve the supporters in the monthly awards and shows that as sponsors they care about the fans of Leeds United.”
Paul and Pontus will receive their watches and their awards pitch side before this evening’s game with Wigan, you can watch this presentation in HD on LUTV in the coming days.
