MONK FOCUSED ON BRISTOL CITY TRIP

United boss looks ahead to Tuesday's clash at Ashton Gate...

Garry Monk says attentions turned to the midweek trip to Bristol City as soon as Saturday’s victory over Ipswich Town concluded, with United focused on extending a run of four straight victories in all competitions.

United head to Ashton Gate looking to make it five in a row for the first time in almost seven years – and Monk is keen for his side to maintain the momentum which has seen the team climb into the top half of the Sky Bet Championship table for the first time this season.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s clash, the United boss said: “We’ve been recovering from the weekend and we’ve had training sessions as well.

“The squad’s looking good, everyone’s ready and focused to try and put on another good performance for Tuesday.

“It’s the same for everyone – you have to focus heavily on recovery and getting the players back and ready for the next game. This league doesn’t let up – there’s always a game around the corner.

“But we’ve done well in this period of games so far where we’ve re-focused literally straight after each game.

“Our eyes have been on Bristol City since the end of the Ipswich game. We’re going down there and we want to keep the run going and that confidence within the group.

“Our main objective in this game is to put another performance on. If we can do that, then we should be in for a good game and, hopefully, a positive result.

“Results bring confidence but our belief has always been there from day one.

“Even throughout difficult periods at the start of the season, we’ve been very focused and we’ve always believed in what we’re doing.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s win at Elland Road, which came courtesy of Chris Wood’s first-half header, Monk added: “Saturday was a good performance. My only disappointment was that we weren’t clinical enough – we should have had a few more goals and made it easier for ourselves in certain situations.

“But, all in all, it was a really good performance and another positive step forward.

“It’s still early days for us – this league has a way of bringing you back down to earth and we’ve got to really manage that and be balanced and focused during the next games.

“Bristol City will be an extremely difficult game – they’re in very good form and they’re a good team.

“We have to be ready, but we go down there with confidence and we’ll look to put our game on the pitch.”
