AS Roma youngster arrives on a season-long loan...

AS Roma youngster Dario Meadows has joined our Development Squad on a season-long loan.

The 17-year-old, who is mainly regarded as a winger but can operate in a number of roles, is capped by Italy at Under-16s level but is also eligible to represent England, where he was born to an English father and Italian mother.

Meadows has lived in Italy since the age of six and has progressed through the ranks of Serie A giants Roma to feature on the European stage for their Under-19s side.

He initially links up with our Academy sides at Thorp Arch and will be able to feature for both Under-23s and Under-18s over the coming months.

“I’m very excited about this new opportunity,” Meadows told leedsunited.com.

“It will be a lot different to where I’ve been used to playing at Roma, but I’m really looking forward to it.

“Leeds have great history and are one of the best clubs in England for producing young players, I’m really happy to be here.”

Discussing his background, Meadows added: “I was born in England – in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. My mother is Italian and my dad is English – I moved to Italy when I was six and have lived in Rome since.

“I’ve played for AS Roma for eight years and now I’m excited for this opportunity on loan at Leeds United.

“I’ve played in a lot of positions for Roma but my dominant position is probably a winger – I’ve played for the national team at Under-16s as a winger, so that’s probably my best position.

“But I’ve also played at full-back and in attacking midfield, so I can play in different positions.”
