Defender Pontus Jansson becomes tenth summer signing...

We are delighted to announce the signing of Swedish international defender Pontus Jansson on a season-long loan from Torino.

Jansson, who becomes Garry Monk’s tenth summer signing, finalised his switch to Elland Road on Wednesday evening after taking in our Sky Bet Championship encounter with Fulham the previous night.

The 25-year-old, a six-foot-five centre-back, has previously worked under United assistant boss Pep Clotet during his time with homeland outfit Malmo FF, where he began his professional career.

Jansson, who has eight senior Sweden caps to his name and was named in their Euro 2016 squad this summer, spent five years with the Malmo first-team before making the switch to Italy in summer 2014.

The defender featured 15 times in Serie A prior to linking up with the United squad, where he takes shirt number 18.

“It feels really good to be here,” Jansson told leedsunited.com. “I heard about three or four days ago that Leeds were interested and I spoke to the coaches.

“I know Pep well from my time with Malmo in Sweden two or three years ago – he’s a good person and a good coach. I’m looking forward to working with him again.

“I need to play football regularly and I know that Leeds are a big club with big ambitions – they also have a lot of fans in Sweden, so I’m really happy to be here.

“I know the club has a lot of tradition – they won the league in 1992 and I know about the really good team with the likes of Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell. I’m going to learn even more in the coming days!

“I want to help take Leeds back to the Premier League as soon as possible. I’m an aggressive defender and I always give more than 100% for the team that I play for.”
