DENTON EXTENDS UNITED STAY

Young full-back pens new one-year deal...

Young left-back Tyler Denton has extended his United stay after agreeing a new one-year deal at Elland Road.

The 20-year-old, a regular fixture with our Under-21s in recent seasons, was one of five young professionals to be offered a new contract when the club announced its retained list earlier this summer.

Denton, who first joined the Academy aged seven, has progressed through the ranks at Thorp Arch and turned professional in summer 2014.

Last season the full-back was our U21s’ joint-highest appearance maker and occasionally captained the side during his 32 outings.

“It’s a really proud moment for me and my family,” Denton told leedsunited.com after putting pen to paper.

“I played every game for the Under-21s last season, which was a bonus for me.

“I felt as though I was pushing towards the first team but obviously Charlie’s a great player in that position – I’ve learnt a lot from him over the last few years.

“I work to be in the first team and putting pressure on Charlie. If that chance comes, I feel like I would be ready.

“It’ll be good to start pre-season again. It’ll be tough – it always is – but it takes a lot of pressure off your mind just being able to get back into it and trying to make an impression on the new manager.

“There’s a real buzz about the place now with the new gaffer. I think the boys will take to how he wants to play and how he works.”
