ROBBIE KEANE latest super show is giving manager David O'Leary a selection headache as United continue to impress in their pre-season campaign.

As the squad fly out to Rotterdam on Thursday, the competition between, Keane, Alan Smith and Mark Viduka is mounting and with Michael Bridges scheduled to return in early September, the battle for a place in the United attack will be even hotter.

All Keane can do is keep scoring goals and he was delighted to bag another brace at Bootham Crescent.

"It was another good game for us and obviously as a striker it was good for me to score a few goals," said Robbie.

"This was a good performance from the boys, especially when you think that we had a few younger lads out there. Overall everyone is happy with the win and it helps us to keep the pre-season form going.

"I am really looking forward to the start of the season now. The confidence with everyone in the squad is very high at the moment and we all want to be involved against Southampton next week.

"Personally, I am glad to be scoring goals and creating chances. We do have some very good strikers at the club and it means you have to be at your best if you want to play for Leeds United.

"All the lads look in fine form and are scoring goals so we hope that the manager has a problem when it comes to picking his side.

"We all want to be playing in that match against Southampton and it is in the friendly games where you can push your claims for a place."

Meanwhile United turned down a request from Crewe Alexander to take Republic of Ireland defender Alan Maybury on loan.

Maybury had a loan spell Gresty Road last season, but is now seen as a key member of the Leeds squad after winning a new one year contract towards the end of the last campaign.

Gareth Evans, who made his debut in the Champions League against TSV 1860 Munich last July, is interesting  Huddersfield Town and the Terriers boss Lou Macari may make a move for the Leeds left back.
