MOWATT FULL OF CONFIDENCE

In-form midfielder on his spectacular brace against Charlton...

United midfielder Alex Mowatt says he is full of confidence after his fine form in front of goal continued with a stunning double in Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Charlton.

Mowatt, who was also on the scoresheet at Cardiff, collected the Man of the Match champagne at Elland Road as he netted his third and fourth goals of the season in spectacular fashion.

The 19-year-old opened the scoring on 49 minutes, firing into Stephen Henderson’s top corner, before making it 2-1 with a superb curling effort which he believes is the best of his career so far.

"I had confidence from scoring at Cardiff as well," said Mowatt.

"The first one came onto my right foot but I just wanted to get it on my left, so it was a good finish to be fair. Then the second one was even better.

"I enjoyed scoring the one on Saturday, I thought that was a good goal but I don’t think I’ve scored any better than that one (the second against Charlton).

"There was a few on the edge of the box shouting for it but I just wanted to get a shot off. Thankfully, it went in.

"Confidence is everything really. When you’re confident, you’re doing well and you just expect chances to drop for you.

"Whereas when you’re not confident, then you’re not looking at those kind of things and you’re not in that kind of area."

Mowatt was also full of praise for the impact of new head coach Neil Redfearn, who he has previously worked with in both first-team and Academy capacities.

"The training is very good with Redders, it’s sharp and when it comes to a Saturday or Tuesday, you’re ready," the midfielder said.

"You know what you’re going to get. He knows me and I know him so it works."

Alongside Sam Byram, Lewis Cook, Charlie Taylor and Chris Dawson, Mowatt was one of five homegrown players in the squad on Tuesday night.

"There are a lot of youngsters," he said. "We all played together at Under-18s level. There’s Charlie, Daws, Sam, Cookie – it’s good when there’s a lot of us in the squad.

"Redders gives us confidence, we feel good."
