Charlie Keetley

1927-34 Centre-forward

Born:  Derby, March 10, 1906
Debut:  South Shields (home), Division Two, December 31, 1927
Games:  169
Goals:  110

Keetley’s 65 per cent hit rate would do any strike of the modern era proud and all his stats make equally impressive reading.  He scored on his debut, the last goal in a 3-0 victory, and by the end of the 1927/28 season had bagged 18 goals in just 16 games — among those, three hat tricks.  By the end of his six and a half seasons with Leeds (after which he joined Derby County) Keetley had scored no less than 10 hat tricks — a total only bettered by John Charles’ 11 — and once even bagged seven for the Reserves.

Strange but true: Kettley had 10 footballing brothers and nine of them played for Derbyshire’s Victoria Ironworks team.
