The earliest player featured in this list.  Hart was a tough ex-miner who stepped out of the reserves and into the first team to play a part in Leeds United’s first ever season.  Manager Arthur Fairclough had recognised his potential when he plucked him from the obscurity of Woodlands Wesleyans in Doncaster.  Fairclough soon turned Hart into a potential England player — although that took several years, by which time Dick Ray had taken over as Leeds manager.  When, in 1928, Hart won his first England cap, he was only the second Leeds player to do so, after Willis Edwards.  Hart remained a Leeds first-team regular throughout 1934/35, only losing his place in the next season after which he moved to Mansfield Town.

Strange but true: After he quit the game he worked for Leeds as a scout, while operating a bus and haulage company.
