Head coach on January window speculation...

Head coach Neil Redfearn says he has been exploring a number of potential January signings as he looks to strengthen his squad for the second half of the season.

Noel Hunt and Nicky Ajose have already departed the club, heading for Ipswich Town and Crewe Alexandra (on loan) respectively, while media reports have seen United linked with numerous new faces.

"We’ve been busy putting lists together with Nicola Salerno, Massimo Cellino’s recruiter, and we’ve been looking through what we’ve got as options," said Redfearn.

One of the names heavily linked with a move to Elland Road is former striker Luciano Becchio, who hit 87 goals in his 221 appearances for the club before departing for Norwich City in January 2013.

The Argentine found regular opportunities limited at Carrow Road, though, and was loaned out to Championship rivals Rotherham United earlier this season.

Asked if Becchio is the type of player Redfearn would be interested in, the head coach replied: "For me, definitely.

"He’s obviously a proven scorer, he’s scored goals for Leeds United.

"He understands the club and how it works. He carries the magnitude of what’s expected well.

"He’s a target man, he’s the type of player that we need.

"We’ve got other irons as well, we’ve got to look at everything. The boys that have got us here so far have done well.

"But now we really need to kick on. These boys that have got us to this position need some help and that’s why we’re looking at others."

Redfearn says he is keen to bolster his squad this month and believes Becchio would fit the bill as he looks to increase his side’s goal-threat.

"He knows this club and he knows he can score goals here," said Redfearn. "He’s got that about him, he’s got presence about him.

"That is the type of thing we need, we need somebody that’s going to lead the line that’s got a bit of presence and add to the ones we’ve got here already.

"We might see players perform a bit differently if we’ve got another dimension.

"We’ve got to sit down and work out what is the best way forward. We’ve got an owner and a recruiter, I’m the head coach and can pass on what I think is right.

"But the consensus of opinion is that the boys do need some help and that is being thought through."
