It's A Walton Family Affair

Leeds United has its very own answer to the cult American TV show ‘The Waltons!’

Simon Walton, 17-year old star of the first team and his younger sister Sophie both play for ‘The Whites’. Simon was signed to the Leeds Academy at just 9 years old followed closely by Sophie, who at the age of 10 was snapped up by the Leeds United Ladies under 12’s team.

Sophie, aged just 14, has now been selected to play for the Leeds United under 16 side and has her sights set on joining the likes of former England star Karen Walker in the first team.

Sophie has also been recognised for her skills on a national level, following in the footsteps of her brother who has represented the England U18’s team, having been chosen to play for England in the Under 17’s squad.

As if that’s not enough, Sophie’s twin brother, Scott, also has a passion for the game, playing for the Sherburn White Rose team. He is currently undergoing trials for the West Riding County team.

All three siblings started playing football at the tender age of seven, Sophie and Scott for Sherburn White Rose, their local side, whilst Simon started out at South Milford Football Club moving on to join the Leeds United Academy aged nine.

Proud Dad Stephen Walton says: “My wife Sue and I are very proud of Sophie and the boys, they all have a clear talent for the game, I am really pleased Simon and Sophie play for Leeds United. I have been a fan for as long as I can remember and will continue to be for many years to come.”

The Walton family live in Sherburn-in-Elmet, near Wetherby and have been Leeds supporters for 10 years. They hold a family season ticket and Simon and Sophie support each other at all of their games.
