Tore Andre Flo has announced his retirement from football.

The 34-year-old striker has parted company with Leeds United after making 24 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

The former Norwegian international has enjoyed an illustrious career and has taken in spells with Sogndal, Tromso, Brann, Chelsea, Rangers, Sunderland, Siena, and Valerenga. He has made over 500 senior appearances, scoring 189 goals, during a career spanning 16 years.

Tore joined Leeds United in January 2007, but suffered a fractured foot after scoring on his full debut against West Brom and missed the remainder of the season. He returned last summer and has started four games this season, scoring three goals. He has made 18 appearances as a substitute.

The striker said: "I had two goals this season, one was to get fit and free from injury, and the other was to get a regular place in the team. They were both equally important to me, but while I managed to get fit I didn't get a regular place.

"I talked it over with my family as it is a big decision. My wife is pregnant, I have been commuting, and I will be able to see my three children a lot more.

"I loved my time at Leeds and I just wish I could have been a lot more free of injury. I'd like to thank everyone in and around Leeds for their support. It was great to be a part of the club, and I'm very happy to have played for Leeds United.

"I'm very happy with the career I've had, and I'd like to thank everyone that has been involved at some stage."

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates also worked with Tore at Chelsea and he said: "Tore is a true gentleman both on and off the field. He has always been a model professional. He signed for me at Chelsea as a kid and came to Leeds in our hour of need.

"My personal thanks go to him. He has been a great player throughout his career and I would like to wish him all the best for the future."

Leeds United manager Gary McAllister added: "He has been a fantastic player who has played at the very highest level. He's won championships, European cups, and I've so much admiration for the guy. I wish him all the best in the future and he will always be welcome in the future at Leeds United."
