A Leeds-brewery have named a new beer in honour of Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe.

Radebeer is produced by The Leeds Brewery Company, based in Holbeck, and is available in public houses across the country.

Leeds United fans were asked to suggest names for the new beer and Paul Chambers came up with the name Radebeer in honour of stalwart Lucas Radebe.

South African-born defender Lucas 'The Chief' Radebe spent 10 years at Elland Road and is a former captain of the club.

Paul said: "I use Billy's Bar at Elland Road regularly and I thought Radebeer sounded good. He's the 'Chief of Leeds'. It's a nice pint, it's been sold nationally, and I'm proud of it."

Leeds Brewery are a new company making their mark in the area, and managing director Sam Moss said he was delighted to team up with Leeds United.

"We're based near Elland Road and this was a natural connection to make to support our local club," said Sam.

"We came up with the idea to produce a special beer and after talking to Leeds United, we all felt the best idea was for fans to name the beer.

"We had 1000s of people who sent in suggestions to the club website which was a pleasing response to the whole idea. The initial suggestions were whittled down to a shortlist of three - and Radebeer came out as the winner."

The beer is on sale around Elland Road, including Billy's Bar, and 10p from every pint will contribute towards the club's transfer fund.

Billy's Bar manager Jonathan Slape said: "It's been fantastic. It flies out on a matchday, and it's a really good beer.

"It's a really good name, it's really popular, and the fact 10p of every pint goes into transfer fund is a great appeal for Leeds fans to drink it."
