Leeds United College course in partnership with British Weight Lifting.

There are spaces available for young students in Year 11 and 12 that are interested in taking on an educational course with the Leeds United College and British Weight Lifting, the UK’s recognised Governing Body for weight lifting..

The Level 3 Sport Diploma in Strength Training is the perfect fit for youngsters interested in weight lifting and weight training and will offer exceptional coaching, leadership and expertise. For those that are looking for further education in sports science or strength and conditioning degrees this course will help progress you into a career in sport or fitness.

Through the duration of the course you will develop your knowledge of strength coaching by planning, delivering and evaluating safe and effective sessions. The classroom sessions will cover 18 different modules relating to sport and fitness, looking at core elements of sporting performance and excellence such as anatomy, physiology, coaching, psychology and analysis. There are 10 hours of weekly interactive practical sessions in a gym that are included in the programme as well, that will provide you with technical knowledge and expertise.

Students will also benefit from guest appearances, practical demonstrations and advice from specialists including international athletes and world class coaches.

Zoe Smith, Olympic Weight Lifter, said: “If there had been a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Strength Training from British Weight Lifting when I was about to embark on my A Levels I would have absolutely been interested in signing up to the course.

“I didn’t complete my A Levels when I was 16 and I am in the process of going back to college to get them now. A strength training diploma from the Governing Body for Weight Lifting is great because it is the equivalent of three A Levels but yet it also includes 10 hours of weekly interactive sessions in a gym delivered by tutors that are experts in strength!”

An Open Evening event for the course is being held for Year 11 students on Thursday 5th March at Elland Road, from 6pm to 8pm. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the Strength Training Diploma and speak to course specialists one-to-one. If you would like to register your interest for the event, please email
