College launch Martial Arts programme

Leeds United College announce exciting new partnership.

Leeds United College are pleased to announce the launch of a new Martial Arts and Sport Development Programme in partnership with Breathe UK Training and Tatsu Dojo.

This new martial arts based sports course will begin in September 2020 for youngsters aged 16 to 18 and will offer students a first class education with specialist coaches all within a unique classroom setting with access to an award winning dojo and fitness facility.

As part of the programme students will study a Level 2 or Level 3 Sports Performance Diploma that focuses on employment or higher education within the sports industry. Within the martial arts training facility students will then learn about the different styles of martial arts and be graded in Japanese Ju Jitsu over the period of the programme.

Those who apply for the course will be supported by their own Sensei, developing the necessary skills and knowledge needed to become a champion with a mix of nutrition, fitness, wellbeing and mindset. There will also be the opportunity to train with the GB WCJJO Ju Jitsu squad and compete in the AMA Nationals.

The fitness programme being used to support the course is called Kairo Fitness; a circuit based training method based on all of the elements of Ju Jitsu techniques, created by 4th Dan Black Belt Tara Burndred who also founded KoTai and is a two time World WCJJO Sport Ju Jitsu Champion.

Tara Burndred, Director for Breathe UK and Founder of the TKJJA, spoke about the launch of the new programme and said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Staffordshire, Breathe UK Training and the Tatsu Dojo. Our long term goal has been to get Self Defence in main stream education and because we have the right team, in the right place, at the right time, it is our privilege to work in partnership with Leeds United College.

“Leeds United are a leading organisation with community at its heart and we are extremely excited for the future, I feel so proud for the team and for all the support shown over the past five years.”

An Open Evening event is being held for students interested in the course on Tuesday 21st January 2020 from 6pm at Blythe Cricket Club, Cresswall Road, Stoke-on-Trent.
