Go-Ahead programme empowers young females

Football programme encourages female engagement.

The Leeds United Foundation are currently delivering the Go-Ahead programme for young aspiring female footballers at a number of different local schools around Leeds.

The Go-Ahead initiative is based around female empowerment, encouraging young girls to engage in football, and develop and improve their skills and knowledge.

The programme is currently being delivered to pupils in Year 10 and 11, with the Foundation engaging with around 20 schools per year. Another element of the programme involves upskilling teachers that are involved with the project, with our coaching staff supporting them with delivery, skills improvement and confidence, ensuring that the programme will remain sustainable after the investment period.

Each school involved, receives a football activity programme that involves a one-hour session per week throughout an entire school year, with the main of encouraging girls to become healthier and more confident through participating in more sport. Also included, is the opportunity to take part in regular tournaments at West Riding County FA.

All young females participating in the programme will also have the opportunity to be part of a community social action volunteering initiative, with the chance to learn about other elements of sport and attend referee and coaching courses, giving them the chance to then use their skills and support their local grassroots teams. This extra guidance will help the participants to increase their knowledge, experience, and overall enjoyment.
