Foundation celebrate World Religion Day

Educational workshops hosted for youngsters.

The Leeds United Foundation have been showing their support for World Religion Day throughout the last week, ensuring youngsters in the local community were able to celebrate the occasion and learn more about the annual event.

Coaches from the Premier League Kicks team have been delivering workshops at each of their sessions during the week, with the young participants able to gain a better understanding of key religions in Leeds and their vales. This included learning more about Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism and Buddhism.

The main aim for the educational sessions was to enable those participating to better understand their neighbours, whilst celebrating what makes our city so special. Young people were able to also share their own stories around their religious beliefs and cultural practices.

World Religion Day is celebrated every January, on the third Sunday of the month – meaning this year it fell on Sunday 15th January. The aim for the national event is to promote understanding and peace between all religions, encouraging different people to learn about other faiths and their followers.

Some of the young people that the club’s official charity have been working with throughout the week have never celebrated or even heard of World Religion Day before, and through the educational sessions they were able to increase their knowledge and learn about some of the historical differences between religions and how we are trying to overcome them and promote unity.

Those participating were also able to be a part of a raffle with the PL Kicks team, with lots of prizes up for grabs including Leeds United merchandise, medals and certificates, along with the opportunity to watch a game at Elland Road.
