Pan disability team welcomes Jesse Marsch

Head coach visits local training session.

Jesse Marsch paid a special visit to one of the Leeds United Foundation disability programmes on Thursday evening to meet with youngsters during their weekly training session in the city.

The Leeds United head coach was on hand to chat with the participants that are part of the pan disability Under-12s and Under-16s, and he spent time answering lots of questions, offering them advice, and watching them train. At the end of the session Jesse also got involved in a big group photo with everyone and stopped to sign autographs, meet parents, and compose video messages for some of the kids that couldn’t make the session.

Coaches from the club’s official charity host these sessions every week at Fives in Seacroft for youngsters with varying disabilities and impairments, both physical and neurodiverse conditions. The young people are encouraged to come along and play football together, improving their skills and confidence levels, but mainly to enjoy themselves and be a part of inclusive sessions.

The participants have a range of disabilities, including those who are visually impaired, amputees, those who use a frame or have cerebral palsy, and some with ADHD and Tourette’s syndrome, and the message is that everyone is welcome.

These sessions have been running for the last four years, and the programme continues to grow each season with new players joining. All of the young people that are part of the teams also play in competitive matches once a month in the Ability Counts League, representing Leeds United.
