Patrick Bamford and Adam Forshaw recently met 20-year-old Emily who is suffering with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia at St James’s University Hospital during a special visit with official charity partner Yorkshire Cancer Research.

In August, Emily was given the devastating news that her cancer had returned following an initial diagnosis in October 2021 after she had noticed unexplained bruises on her legs.

After a series of intense treatment and a period of isolation, Emily was able to ring the end of treatment bell at St James’s Hospital in July after receiving the all-clear but that unfortunately didn’t last for long.

Kirstie, Emily’s mum, said: “To get the all-clear and then for it to come back, it was just horrific. She was absolutely heartbroken, and she is really, really scared because the thought of not being able to find a donor to help save her life is unbearable.”

Emily is once again undergoing intense chemotherapy in hospital, but she needs to find a stem cell donor to be able to survive.

The donor needs to be between 16 to 30, and we need to try and encourage as many people as possible to join the Anthony Nolan stem cell register to see if we can find a match.
