Foundation to continue Primary Choices success

Primary education initiative to continue for 22/23 season.

The Leeds United Foundation will continue their incredibly successful Primary Choices programme throughout the 2022/23 campaign across Primary Schools in Leeds and beyond.

Building on the success of the initiative last season, with over 180 local schools hosting the club’s official charity and delivering Primary Choices sessions, the aim is to exceed that delivery and partner with every Primary School throughout the city over the next year.

Primary Choices is an educational project that is based around helping young students to make positive choices, moving them away from any potential negative influences. It is an early intervention initiative that aims to reduce the risks associated with anti-social behaviour and support children in making the right choices and understanding the consequences of negative decisions.

As part of the programme, coaches from the Foundation will continue to deliver 90-minute spotlight workshops to whole year groups that will cover a variety of important topics and themes linked to PSHE curriculum, including safe relationships, anti-social behaviours, knife crime, gang affiliation and many more.

Following the initial spotlight assemblies, schools are then able to identify individuals that may benefit from further sessions for up to six weeks that can help to target any issues with attendance, attainment, and behaviour to encourage positive engagement and improved attendance rates.

Youngsters taking part in the programme will be able to develop their skills and knowledge to help them better understand the consequences of their behaviour, whilst also giving them the opportunity to improve their confidence and self-esteem that may be affecting their ability to make the right decisions at the right times.

For any schools that are interested in finding out more information about the Primary Choices programme, or would like to take up the offer of an introductory 90-minute spotlight session, please contact Mathew.Everett@leedsunited.com
