Leeds United Supporters\' Trust unveil mural at Elland Road

Mural celebrates 72 FA Cup winning team.

The Leeds United Supporters' Trust unveiled their 10th Leeds United mural on Friday afternoon at Elland Road with the support of the club and its official energy drinks partner, Boost Drinks.

This new mural, which is located outside Elland Road, celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 1972 winning FA Cup team, featuring squad members around a centre piece of legendary manager Don Revie. The site is just a stone’s throw away from the recently installed commemorative plaques for the same team based inside the East Stand entrance.

In an exciting and exclusive collaboration, Leeds artist Nicolas Dixon undertook the hand painted mural with his famous abstract design and used original individual player portraits designed by acclaimed sports artist Paul Trevillion.

The mural was completed in time for the first Leeds United home game of the season against Wolves with thousands of fans impressed by the design.

The mural features David Harvey, Paul Reaney, Paul Madeley, Billy Bremner, Jack Charlton, Norman Hunter, Terry Cooper, Peter Lorimer, Allan Clarke, Mick Jones, Johnny Giles, Eddie Gray, Mick Bates, Les Cocker and Don Revie.

At around 43-metres' squared, the mural is painted on the wall opposite the Centenary Pavilion, close to the ‘Champions’ mural by Adam Duffield and Mateusz Klich.  The 72’ mural was originally due to feature in Leeds City Centre, but after planning fell through at the final hour, Leeds United stepped in to help the Trust find a suitable space. The club came up with a prime location outside the ground – which is only deserving for this group of players.

Leeds United Supporters' Trust have been working with the club’s official energy drinks supplier Boost Drinks, following an approach to support a mural. The Leeds based drinks brand have kindly put forward the sponsorship money to pay for the costs to be able to make this happen.

The mural continues to be part of an ongoing project by LUST to celebrate the rich history of Leeds United across the city through different types of themed art.

Nicolas Dixon, artist said: “To have been able to paint this outside at Elland Road, literally at the entrance where I used to queue for overnight tickets as a kid in the 80’s is very special for me. To have collaborated with such a legend as Paul Trevillion to celebrate the great Don Revie’s 72 side is quite honestly a dream come true for me – I’m over whelmed with all the love and support it’s had from fans already – it’s been a privilege to work on it.”

Paul ‘The Beaver’ Trevillion, sports artist, said “I’m doubly proud and excited that this mural honouring the 50th Anniversary of Leeds United 1972 FA Cup victory is now on the hallowed walls of Elland Road. The mural is larger than life – it is a magnificent artistic collaboration of Trevillion portraits and Nicolas Dixon abstract – a big thanks to Leeds United, Boost and LUST for making this happen – IT’S DYNAMITE.”

Clair Hufton, Board Member at the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust, added: “I’m so proud that finally we’ve been able to get this mural over the line, it’s taken over a year to plan and execute. A big thanks to Leeds United who stepped in to give us the prime space at the ground to bring this mural to life – I don’t think there is a better and more deserving location for it. A big thanks to Boost Drinks who have funded the project and help make it happen.

"We’re really proud to continue to support sucyh talented artists across the city who deliver amazing execution and passion in these stunning pieces of art for us all to enjoy!”

An interactive website has been created with all the locations of the 10 murals done by the Trust with its own route map, and you can visit the website here www.murals.lufctrust.com
