Under-18s show support for World Suicide Prevention Day

Academy players don Inside Out campaign t-shirts to help raise awareness.

The Leeds United Academy have once again shown their support for World Suicide Prevention Day, with the Under-18s team donning special t-shirts for the Inside Out campaign during their training session on Friday afternoon.

Young players within the Academy set-up at the club have been helping to promote the annual event and the important work being done by the If U Care Share Foundation for the last few years, specifically the Inside Out campaign that highlights the importance of talking and bringing what is on the Inside, Out.

World Suicide Prevention Day takes place on September 10th every year and it is an awareness event that is committed to preventing suicides by encouraging communities and organisations across the globe to discuss mental health and the importance of sharing how you’re feeling with others.

The Inside Out initiative coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day and asks people to wear an item or various items of their clothing inside out, with those who are able to share images of their support helping to spark conversation around the topic using the #AskMeWhy.

If U Care Share aims to prevent anyone feeling the pain of losing someone through suicide, encouraging everyone to share their problems instead of burying them within, with the belief that talking really can help to save lives.

The Leeds United Academy have been working with the If U Care Share Foundation for almost seven years, delivering educational workshops with each age group and continually showing support for their annual awareness campaigns. The Under-18s wanted to play their part this year by wearing branded t-shirts printed with ‘I’m getting what’s on the Inside, Out’ for one of their training sessions at Thorp Arch, in the hopes that even if it helps just one person or inspires just one person to get the help they need, then it is worthwhile.
