Premier League Primary Stars team deliver journalism session

Outwood Primary Schools network attend exclusive online event.

The Leeds United Foundation Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) team delivered an exclusive online journalism session for a number of schools under the Outwood Primary Schools network on Thursday morning.

With students from 12 different Academies under the Outwood umbrella involved, the session was hosted via Google Meet by coaches from the club’s official charity along with a special guest in the form of previous Leeds United player Ben Parker.

The online session was based all around ‘News, Journalism and Reporting’ with the LUTV presenter on hand to answer various questions on a number of topics from each class in attendance whilst also offering tips and advice for the pupils taking part.

Some of the topics discussed during the session included 'Resilience' and how footballers deal with setbacks and in particular how the sport is bouncing back from any difficulties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, 'Mental Health' with Ben able to give an insight into keeping both physically and mentally healthy with discussion around mechanisms that can help to support your mental wellbeing and finally other careers and jobs that are involved in football 'Beyond the Pitch' with Ben able to talk about his current role as a Community Link Officer within the Foundation along with a number of other roles and departments such as media and communications, finance, commercial, ticketing, IT and many more.

The PLPS team within the Leeds United Foundation have built a strong relationship with the Outwood Academies, delivering a number of bespoke initiatives and sessions which has also included special appearances from Leeds United Under-23 players for activity delivered during World Book Day.
